The department of Health have produced a series of white papers which develop the need for patient centric care and the need to manage patients within the home and community settings.

A Government White Paper was presented to the House of Commons on 30 January 2006 entitled 'Our health, our care, our say: a new direction for community services'.

The White Paper recognises the importance of assistive technology in supporting people safely in their homes using telecare and telehealth services. Further work will be carried out to establish the effectiveness of remote monitoring over the next two years. The relevant paragraphs of the White Paper for telehealth are 5.36 to 5.42.

Accompanying the White Paper are two bulletins which provide summary information and examples

On 24 February 2006, the Department of Health published 'Supporting people with long term conditions to self care: A guide to developing local strategies and good practice'. This covers useful advice for health, housing and social care on providing self-care services. There are references to telehealth on Page 37 of the document within the 'Role of PCTs'.
