Amid numerous priorities, Primary Care and NHS Trusts face several pressures today, the largest of which is the need to continuously improve healthcare services whilst at the same time reducing costs.

It’s an ongoing and demanding balancing act, but equally it represents a significant opportunity to deploy innovative and appropriate technologies to solve financial, time and other pressures involving scarce resources.

One such area is Telehealth, where systems and services have been proven to deliver important benefits for patients and clinicians, as well as resource management

For certain aspects of healthcare, such as blood pressure monitoring, it simply isn’t necessary any more for each and every patient to travel to their local clinic or hospital. Indeed, given the choice and the appropriate means, many patients are perfectly happy to undertake routine medical monitoring tasks themselves.

This approach is particularly true for patients who lead active lives where lifestyle choices are important for maintaining health and well being and quality of life standards.

As a consequence, NHS Trusts can substantially reduce the volume of patients visiting their nurses or doctors unnecessarily. As well as freeing up a doctor or nurse’s time to attend to patients they should be seeing on a regular basis, remote monitoring and telehealth solutions have been proven to reduce costs to the healthcare provider.
